Form 990 and 990-EZ, Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax under Section 501(c) whose gross receipts average $25,000 or more per year.
Form 990-N (e-Postcard), for Exempt Organization whose annual gross receipts are normally $25,000.00 or less ($50,000 for tax years ending on or after December 31, 2010) per year. The e-Postcard is required to be filed by small exempt organizations that do not meet the filing requirements of 990 or 990-EZ.
Important Notification Regarding Form 990 Filing and Exempt Status
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 introduced a rule that tax-exempt organizations that do not file required information returns for three consecutive years will lose their exempt status. For organizations that have not been filing series 990 returns, 2009 is the third filing year since enactment, and exempt status could be revoked if the required returns are not filed by the due date of the 2009 tax return. Organizations have until the 15th day of the fifth month following the end of the tax year to file; in addition, two extensions of three months each may be requested.
Additionally, we prepare and file Federal Form 1023, Application for Recognition of Tax Exempt Status under IRC Section 501(c)(3) and all relevant state applications. To be recognized by the IRS an exempt organization, potential 501(c)(3) organizations must file this application. It is a very involved application that requires several attachments that includes the Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Conflict of Interest Policy, Financials, and a complete description of past, present and future activities.
